The 4th Annual Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant

The 4th Annual Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt Zion Pkwy, Jonesboro Georgia. The pageant is slated to begin at 7.30pm; doors open at 6:45pm. This is a charity event produced by the African Women’s Development Foundation, USA. AWDF is a Tax Exempt (IRS 501 (3) (c) non-profit organization registered with the Georgia Secretary of State. The mission of the AWDF is to help disadvantaged women and children in Africa, America and around the world. The AWDF produces different multi-cultural events throughout the year and Miss Africa USA is one of such signature events. The contestants are from across the USA. The pageant provides a platform for young women to showcase their talent, culture, poise, leadership abilities and to speak out on their different platforms for humanity. This year 17 beautiful women will represent 17 African countries and will showcase a piece of their culture to the world.
The winner of this pageant is crowned as an African Queen and a Goodwill Ambassador advocating for those in need. The Miss Africa USA Pageant provides great multi-cultural entertainment and enrichment for the community. The world famous, entertaining and colorful Cameroon National Ballet will perform for the first time in the United States of America, sponsored by the Cameroon Ministry of Culture. The Gambian Masquerade dancers will also be performing. The pageant event will also feature top International Designers showcasing the latest in African Couture on the runway. The Pageant will be Co-hosted by Miss Alaska 1984, Maryline Blackburn and Georgia based Film Producer Marlon Campbell. Several local, state and nationally known celebrities will serve as pageant judges. This event is supported by Georgia State Representative Honorable Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro), Dr. Anita Lloyd of Clayton County Performing Arts Center, Clayton County Chamber of Commerce, Georgia AGOA Commission, the Cameroon Ministry of Culture and the Akwa Ibom State government and the Clayton County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
