The Iconic Beauty, brain and seasoned professional Dr. Aretha Makia graces the Miss Africa USA Pageant and its ideals by throwing her weight in support of Education for the African Girl.  Miss Africa USA Pageant is proud to announce the launching of the ARETHA MAKIA SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR MISS AFRICA USA. 90%  of the delegates representing their countries in the pageant each year are either college students or graduates planning to return to further education and self development.  This announcement is a great initiative to prove to our young women that Education is the Key.  An educated woman is an empowered Woman.  This is a historical gesture in the Miss Africa USA Pageant, for the first time in its seven years of existence, a special Scholarship trust fund is set up for the winner, sponsored by a former beauty Queen. Aretha won the hearts of Cameroonians back in the 1990s when she gracefully paved her way to the Crown of Miss Cameroon.  Her beauty is skin deep and her heart exonerates kindness, humility and love.  In 2010 the Miss Africa USA Pageant recognized her humanitarian service, helping to save lives and make a difference in Haiti after the earthquake that took so many lives. She was on the ground in Haiti saving lives.  Dr. Makia who is a top OB/GYN surgeon in Maryland is a success story,  a former beauty Queen who epitomizes the strength and real beauty of an African woman.  She has a successful career as a Physician and her love for fashion puts her on a different level, balancing a successful career, motherhood, an awesome wife and she is a fashion statement and will immediately light up any Red Carpet with her great fashion and style.  She has become a strong patron and advocate for the Miss Africa USA Pageant and shares in the pageant’s vision of empowering young African girls.   THE MISS AFRICA USA PAGEANT SALUTES DR. ARETHA MAKIA, A ROLE MODEL FOR BEAUTY QUEENS AND AN INSPIRATION.     Dr. Aretha Makia receives the 2010 WOMAN OF VALOR AWARD at the Miss Africa USA VIP Banquet at the UMUC Marriott Hotel. In 2010 Dr. Makia was responsible for Asking those Final Interview Questions at the Pageant, to the top 5 Finalists after which the Winner was Selected.  She has been in that position before and she did an excellent job to make the girls feel relaxed on stage as they prepared to deliver their final answers.   Dr. Makia will again be throwing those questions to the finalists this year at the pageant slated for Sunday Novemer 13 2011 at the Hilton Hotel, Downtown Silver Spring Md. MEET MISS AMERICA 2010, CARESSA CAMERON THE HOST OF MISS AFRICA USA PAGEANT NOV 13 2011

Do not miss this golden opportunity to come out and experience the beauty of Africa and support a good cause.  Each Delegate takes on a humanitarian platform and commits time and service to make a difference in our world today. The Principles promoted by the pageant are goodwill and service beyond self.  Based on these principles also held up by the Miss America Pageant, we are proud to acknowledge the good deeds of Miss Caressa Cameron, Miss America 2010 and invited her to Host the 2011 Miss Africa USA Pageant.  She is making a difference by promoting HIV and AIDS Awareness in the United States and we hope she will one day take her message to Africa too. You are hereby invited to learn more about this dynamic and very talented young Lady who continues to shine her light in the world.  Please bring your families and friends out on Sunday Nov 13th to support the Pageant and also meet our host Caressa Cameron, Miss America 2010.   Caressa believes strongly in her message, Real Talk: AIDS in America. She is the Coordinator of Youth Services for the Fighting the AIDS Crisis with Education and Support (FACES) Project and she served on the steering team which brought the Ora-Sure HIV (Oral) Antibody Test to the State of Virginia. In addition, she organized an effort to persuade public school officials to establish AIDS-targeted sex education in middle schools. She has spoken to over 10,000 students in more than 40 middle and high schools across Virginia. For her efforts, she was the recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award and she was presented with a Congressional Honor for her community service endeavors in Virginia. She was also awarded the Whitman Walker Partner for Life award for her efforts to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS. Community service has always been a part of Caressa’s life and, in high school, she received the Fellowship of Christian Athletes award for integrity, service, teamwork, and excellence. An accomplished vocalist and talent award winner at Miss America, Caressa was honoredto perform during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration festivities and she performed at the historic Apollo Theatre in New York City. As Miss America, she was honored to sing the “National Anthem” for many professional sporting events across the country. She enjoys performing many genres of music, including, pop, classical, jazz, country, and gospel. Caressa is fulfilling her degree requirements at Virginia Commonwealth University in broadcast communications. She hopes to pursue a Masters degree in mass communications and to become a leading anchor in television news. At VCU, she was named to the dean’s list and she has received academic honors for her scholastic achievements.
